Re: Winter Break and a New Year
There are so many things I love about Lexington Two, and one that stands out for me today is this: We work hard, but we know how to enjoy one another as well. We have done plenty of both over these past several weeks.
This is a busy time of year for our students, wrapping up the second quarter with exams and, for high schoolers, End of Course tests. For our Class of 2023 seniors – and the teachers and guidance counselors who support them – it’s a time of applications and big decisions about college and career choices.
Still, amid the rush to wrap up the school year’s first semester and prepare for the new year, we try to take time to celebrate, appreciate, and serve:
- This season, we opened our doors to the community with a number of festive events, from Winter Wonderlands to choral concerts, strings and orchestra performances, and elementary school sing-a-longs, celebrating our students’ immense talents.
- We share our appreciation for each other in a number of thoughtful ways, like snack carts, holiday lunches, handmade gifts and cards, cookie exchanges, and more. In addition this season, our PTOs treated teachers and staff to coffee bars and goodies, while our community and law enforcement partners made the holiday brighter for our students with gifts like new socks and shoes and shopping trips.
- Finally, this is our community, and we know the importance of serving others. Our schools and offices stocked the season with donation drives. Riverbank Elementary, for example, collected 500 food items for Cayce Cares and 340 hats, socks, and gloves for Mt. Hermon Lutheran’s community pantry, while Wood Elementary donated 902 cans to Cayce Cares and had a giving tree to sponsor 15 families as well as some seniors from Rapha Residential Care. Congaree Elementary held a sock drive as well as a canned food drive that helped feed 40 families. And there is much more.
On behalf of our Board of Trustees and all of our employees, we wish you a wonderful, restful, and safe winter break. We look forward to seeing our students back in class on Thursday, January 5.
